Epoxy resin flooring is becoming increasingly popular in industry, agriculture, as well as in commercial and residential spaces. It is extremely durable, resistant to abrasion and chemicals, and easy to clean. However, to enjoy its full potential, proper preparation and application are essential. Below we present step-by-step how to lay an epoxy resin floor.
You will find full and detailed instructions in the instructions available on our website – gaz-bud.pl.
1. Substrate preparation
Substrate condition assessment:
-
The concrete substrate should be dry, load-bearing, level, and free from contaminants.
-
The concrete moisture content should not exceed 4%.
Mechanical cleaning:
-
Use a grinder, router, or sandblasting to remove cement laitance and ensure better adhesion.
Repairing defects:
-
Cracks and defects should be filled with a repair compound compatible with epoxy resin.
2. Surface priming
Application of epoxy primer:
-
The primer penetrates deep into the substrate and ensures proper bonding of subsequent layers.
-
Quartz sand can be added to the primer to increase adhesion.
3. Laying the base layer
Mixing the components:
-
The resin and hardener should be mixed thoroughly in the correct proportions.
-
After mixing, wait a few minutes to remove air from the mixture.
Pouring and spreading:
-
The pour is carried out with a notched trowel or squeegee.
-
Layer thickness: from 1.5 mm to 5 mm depending on the application.
De-airing:
-
Use a spiked roller to remove air bubbles and evenly distribute the material.
4. Optional surface finish
Topcoat:
-
Provides additional chemical and UV resistance.
-
Matte, semi-gloss, or glossy effects can be achieved.
Addition of quartz sprinkles or decorative flakes:
-
Used in anti-slip or decorative systems.
5. Curing time and application conditions
-
Working temperature: 15–25°C.
-
Air humidity: max 75%.
-
Foot traffic: after 24 h.
-
Full curing: after 7 days.
Most common mistakes when laying resin floors
-
Improper substrate preparation.
-
Mixing ratio errors.
-
Curing too quickly or too slowly (temperature!).
-
Insufficient de-airing – air bubbles.
