Home case, 40 m². Goal: comfort in use, matte appearance, easy cleaning, good stain and UV resistance.
In short: what the client wanted to do, and what we did
- Client's plan: cheapest and fastest resin "for the garage", gloss.
- Risks: creaking, wear, UV susceptibility, visible scratches and stains.
- Our recommendation: Epidian Floor system with S1 self-leveling layer + matte polyurethane varnish (protective and UV topcoat), optionally a light anti-slip.
Why S1 + matte PU varnish is a good choice for a home
- Comfort and appearance: matte scatters reflections, "homey" character without a wet-look effect.
- Stain resistance: coffee, wine, oils – PU varnish makes it easier to wash and slows down penetration.
- UV: PU varnish protects against yellowing and microcracks from light.
- Renovation: after years, you can matte and refresh only the topcoat.
Substrate audit and preparation
We performed a CM moisture measurement, mechanical grinding to zero, industrial vacuuming, filling defects with resin filler (epoxy + quartz sand), cutting peripheral expansion joints, masking thresholds with painter's tape.

Recommended layer system (40 m²)
- Epoxy primer (Epidian Floor G1) – bonding and closing pores.
- Self-leveling layer (Epidian Floor S1) – even, smooth working film.
- Polyurethane varnish matte – UV/chemical resistance, final appearance.
Estimated consumption (approximate)
| Layer | Product | Consumption | For 40 m² |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primer | Epidian Floor G1 | 0.25–0.35 kg/m² | 10–14 kg |
| Self-leveling | Epidian Floor S1 | 1.5–2.0 kg/m² * | 60–80 kg |
| Topcoat | Matte PU varnish | 0.10–0.15 kg/m² / layer | 4–6 kg (1–2 layers) |
*Actual S1 consumption depends on the flatness of the substrate; it increases with local waves.
Work schedule (day by day)
Day 1: grinding, vacuuming, repair fillers, G1 primer.
Day 2: S1 – pouring, degassing, pre-hardening.
Day 3: matte PU varnish (1–2 layers), preliminary acceptance.
Usage: walking after 24 h*, full mechanical/chemical resistance usually after 5–7 days.*
*Depending on temperature and ventilation.
How much does it cost? (estimate for 40 m²)
Materials: approx. PLN 4,500 gross* (G1 + S1 + matte PU varnish + accessories).
Labor (optional): depends on the region and the condition of the substrate.
*Approximate range — we calculate the final cost based on actual consumption and packaging.
Results after 6 months
- No yellowing or streaks, typical micro-scratches from chairs – invisible in matte.
- Coffee and wine stains – come off with standard neutral cleaning.
- Acoustics and comfort – clearly better experience than with gloss.
FAQ
Is the system suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. We use epoxy primer + S1, and the PU topcoat does not restrict heat conduction. Important: pre-heating and slow temperature increase according to the procedure.
How to care for the floor?
Regular vacuuming and washing with pH 6–8 products. Periodic maintenance washing. Hard felt pads under chairs.
Is matte less resistant than gloss?
No — resistance is defined by the PU topcoat; matte/gloss finish is a matter of aesthetics and micro-scratch masking.
Anti-slip?
Light micro-anti-slip is possible (varnish additives) without a noticeable loss of the "smooth" appearance.
